Effective September 3, 2026, we are changing certain underwriting requirements to improve your clients’ experience. These changes are intended to simplify the underwriting process, reduce certain processing delays, and enable more point-of-sale decisions when the applicable criteria are met.
What’s changing
Critical illness
For certain eligible critical illness insurance cases, a telephone interview will no longer be required. Clients must now simply fill out the declarations of insurability.
This change applies to the following amounts:
- Ages 51–60: $0 to $500,000
- Ages 41–50: $200,001 to $500,000
- Ages 18–40: $250,001 to $500,000
Additional medical requirements may still be requested depending on the characteristics of the submitted case, including vital signs, blood profile testing, and attending physician reports.
Disability insurance
A phone interview will now only be required when the benefit to be paid (disability credit and supplementary income) or the premium to be waived (WPDis, CAD and CID) exceeds $4,000 per month. Previously, this threshold was set at $2,000 per month.
What this means for you
By allowing you to complete the declarations of insurability directly with your clients, this approach reduces the need for an external provider, simplifies the underwriting process and speeds up the processing of applications.
Advantages for you and your clients
- Fewer phone interviews to coordinate
- Simplified underwriting process
- Quicker application processing
- Greater chance of getting a point-of-sale decision
- Full service offered by you
What will happen with pending files?
✅ File already submitted: No impact.
✅ Validation step completed in EVO: Requirements already obtained remain valid.
⚠️ Validation step not completed in EVO or redone after the changes take effect: Declarations of insurability must be completed before continuing.
