  • Over two million Canadians celebrate the Lunar New Year every year. According to Statistics Canada’s latest census, over 1.7 million Chinese people were living in Canada in 20211
  • One of the most emblematic traditions of this festival is the exchange of red envelopes, called “hongbao” in Chinese. These envelopes contain money and are generally given as a sign of good fortune and prosperity for the coming year. 
  • Millions of people travel around the world to celebrate the cultural traditions associated with this event, spend time with family, enjoy delicious meals and wish each other a Happy New Year.
